Why probiotics matter: balancing the rumen for healthier, more productive cattle
Probiotics are live, beneficial microorganisms that support gut health and efficiency. In cattle, they help balance the rumen, which is home to trillions of microbes that do the heavy lifting when it comes to breaking down feed. Stress and feed transitions can disrupt the rumen and the microbes that live there, causing a buildup of lactic acid.
Lactipro is the only probiotic that provides live Megasphaera elsdenii (Mega e), a naturally occurring rumen bacterium that rapidly consumes lactic acid. By reducing excess lactic acid, Lactipro helps stabilize rumen pH and support fermentation, especially during times of stress, dietary change, or transport.

Adaptation
Cattle's natural levels of Mega e decline while they're on high-roughage diets. As they transition to a high-energy diet, lowered levels of Mega e can result in a buildup of lactic acid. Lactic acid accumulation causes rumen pH levels to drop and can result in off-feed events, acidosis, and performance setbacks.
Feed intake disruptions caused by weather stress, pen moves, or production changes can also affect the microbes that live in the rumen, causing disruptions to rumen health.
Lactipro helps cattle adapt to feed transitions or stress by delivering concentrated Mega e to stabilize rumen. It's been proven to support faster adaptation to high-energy diets and to meet demands of production stress and changes — keeping cattle, and your return on investment, on track.
Using Lactipro as part of your cattle nutrition program can:
- Shorten step-up periods in the feedlot
- Improve feedlot efficiency and cost savings
- Ease fresh cow transitions
- Help weaned calves adapt to grain-based diets faster
- Help cows' rumen adapt to graze crop residue
- Ease the transition of hospital cattle back to pens

Rumen health
Lactipro develops and maintains rumen health by delivering concentrated Mega e to not only reduce the buildup of problematic lactic acid, but also promote the production of butyric acid, a beneficial volatile fatty acid (VFA) that promotes long-term rumen health.
Lactipro increases the level of Mega e in the rumen and sets cattle up for a lifetime of health and improved productivity. It helps develop rumen papillae and epithelial tissue to improve nutrient absorption in the rumen.
Lactipro has been used with confidence for more than in over 30 million head of cattle. Put targeted Mega e to work in your herd to support ongoing rumen health.
Using Lactipro as part of your cattle nutrition program can:
- Optimize bulls' genetic potential for performance and growth
- Improve calf rumen development
- Increase calf feed intake and weight
- Reduce cull rate on fresh cows
- Reduce late-stage mortality in feedlot cattle
- Address low rumination alerts in dairy cows
Lactipro harnesses the power of Mega e to support rumen health
Learn about the mode of action of Megasphaera elsdenii (Mega e), a natural and unique rumen bacteria. Lactipro harnesses the power of a superior strain of Mega e to regulate rumen pH and to maintain rumen health. Lactipro is available in three product forms – LactiproNXT®, a low-volume drench, LactiproFLX®, a convenient capsule, and LactiproEDGE®, a feed additive.
FROM OUR CUSTOMERS
"We’ve been using Lactipro for the last five years. From our Lactipro research, what we saw was a significant reduction in the time it takes to get cattle back up on feed following terminal processing."
